Nature creeps into the faced sandstone walls of the largely intact Union Canal Lock 10 West.  The Union Canal was split into east and west halves by the Union Canal Tunnel, which is the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the United States.  The canal ran from Reading, PA at the Schuylkill River to Middletown, PA at the Susquehanna River.  There were 87 locks along the canal.
