The Molly Maguires were a 19th century secret society that originated in Ireland before immigrating to northeastern Pennsylvania.  In the 1870s their cause became the Irish miners and their deplorable working conditions.  Their activism turned violent, leading to murder.  Twenty suspected members were hung.  The Molly Maguires’ story became immortalized in the 1970 Sean Connery movie Molly Maguires filmed in Eckley, PA (Troublesome Trucks), an abandoned coal mining town.  This abandoned coal breaker was part of the movie scenery.
