Eckley is a northeast Pennsylvania ghost town.  The town, now preserved and owned by the state, was once a coal mining company town.  The company controlled all aspects of town life including the schools, church, doctors and prices in the town store.  Most of the miners were immigrants from Ireland (Molly Maguire).  Work in the mine was harsh and conditions were atrocious. Serious injury and death were common and wages were low.
