The Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace was built in the 1860s and was the last of eight furnaces to be built in the tight geographic triangle of Marietta, Columbia, and Wrightsville, PA. This anthracite-fueled, hot blast furnace kept the cost of importing non-native anthracite low, thanks to its access to the Pennsylvania Canal and Pennsylvania Railroad.
