The farmstead of the widow Lydia Lester became famous as General George Meade’s headquarters during the battle of Gettysburg. Upon her return after the battle a scene of devastation unfolded before her eyes. The house was riddled with bullet holes, seventeen dead horses littered the yard, and some fruit trees, her pride and joy had been torched.
